DePue, Illinois

Located far up the Illinois River, where it bends to the east north of St. Louis, DePue sits on a lake off the main channel.

The town has some amazing slipcovers on its old buildings in the downtown.

This old bank has one of the coolest survivors of an old burglar alarm, which I assume once lit up and sounded a siren when it was tripped. I have never seen anything like this before.

Below, this playground was the location of ice houses that once supplied St. Louis brewers with blocks of ice for their refrigerated railcars.

The DePue School District has all of its classes in this building.

Later, polluting industries moved in, and while they left behind some interesting company housing, the town still struggles with the legacy of that pollution.

Senior citizens interested in taking my OASIS class on Fifteenth Century Italian Renaissance art can sign up for the three week course starting today, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Wednesday, September 5, 2018 by clicking on this link and searching by my last name or course number 112.
